During the upcoming Full Moon in Leo on January 28th the Moon conjuncts Hygeia. A cosmic prayer of well defined intentions in the area of healing our creative self expression through the power of Medicine Woman, the asteroid Hygeia whose healing abilities are augmented and transmuted through the conjunction with the Moon and the trine to the Wounded Healer Chiron.
Asteroid Hygeia was discovered on 12 April 1849, in Naples, Italy, by 29 years old astronomer Annibale de Gasparis. Hygeia, located in the main asteroid belt, is the fourth-largest asteroid in the Solar System, after Ceres, Vesta and Pallas. In 2019 scientists revealed that Hygiea is nearly spherical, and therefore she should be considered not as an asteroid but a dwarf planet, like Ceres and Pluto. Her surface reveals two dark craters which have been informally named Serpent and Chalice from Latin Serpens and Calix respectively.
In Greek mythology, Hygieia was the Goddess of Health and the daughter of Asclepius, the god of medicine, although in some versions of the myth she is described as his wife. Hygieia often held a bowl or chalice, presumably filled with medicinal potions, with a serpent encircling it. The bowl and serpent together depict the practice of healing through the use of herbs and plants. The serpent has represented medicine for at least 2,400 years, since it’s association with Asclepius, the traditional Greek god of medicine.
The archetypal meaning Hygeia conveys is the one of Medicine Woman, connected to the infinite cosmic healing energy. In one hand she holds her Cup of limitless potentialities, in the other, a snake acting as a lighting rod that conducts the power and serves her to perform quantum healing.
Hygeia as the Goddess of Healing assists in bringing the focus on self-care and preventive methods. Most importantly, The Medicine Woman accelerates the self-healing process as she reminds you that you are the channel for divine healing power. Through connecting to the bigger source of cosmic consciousness – Chalice, you amplify your abilities. Honour and respect these skills within you, keep on learning, and sharing the medicinal knowledge you possess.
