The eclipse season is a powerful vortex of energy that heralds change and opens new possibilities, especially a portal to spiritual wisdom acquired through past lives or received directly from the Source.
The New Moon and the Total Solar Eclipse arrives on August 12 at 20° Leo, opening a powerful threshold between what we have been and what is asking to become visible.
Sidereal Cancer & Ashlesha: The Serpent Gate
In the sidereal sky, this Solar Eclipse takes place in Ashlesha, the Nakshatra of the serpents, guardians of hidden intelligence within the body. Its deities are the Nāgas, ancient serpent beings associated with secret knowledge, binding and unbinding, poison and medicine, concealment and transformation. They evoke the coiled intelligence of DNA, the codes carried within the body and the ancestral memory sleeping beneath ordinary consciousness, waiting for the precise moment to awaken.
Ashlesha is ruled by Mercury, binding mind, language and nervous intelligence to instinctual, somatic knowing. Its movement is serpentine rather than linear: it coils around what has been hidden until we are able to perceive it. Ashlesha does not necessarily liberate through expansion, but through precision, discernment and knowing what must be released so the system can evolve. During a Solar Eclipse, when the familiar light of the Sun itself temporarily disappears, this descent into hidden knowledge becomes especially powerful.
This is where the eclipse vortex becomes a portal into something much older than our present identity. Memories, symbols, dreams and knowledge may surface without an obvious origin. We may understand them as ancestral transmissions, impressions carried across past lives, or information received directly from the Source. Ashlesha asks us not simply to remember, but to discern: What belongs to us? What has been inherited? What must be unbound? And what ancient knowledge is ready to become useful now?
With Jupiter also moving through Ashlesha, the serpent’s hidden chamber becomes a place of expansion and spiritual knowledge. Jupiter magnifies whatever it touches, but here growth does not necessarily happen by accumulating more. It can happen through recovering something forgotten, recognizing an old pattern, or releasing what has kept the deeper intelligence bound.
Perhaps this is the paradox at the heart of the August eclipse: tropical Leo wants to illuminate, while sidereal Ashlesha takes us underground. One asks what is ready to shine; the other asks what must first be encountered in darkness. The eclipse holds both movements simultaneously. The light disappears, the serpent stirs, and something previously hidden begins to remember itself.
For me, this eclipse feels particularly personal because my natal Mercury and Jupiter are in Ashlesha very close to the degree of the Total Solar Eclipse. With Jupiter now moving through the same nakshatra, the eclipse activates a place in my own chart connected with knowledge, language and transmission. It makes the question of what knowledge we inherit, remember and eventually give back to the world feel especially alive.
Tropical Leo & The Heart of Solar Intelligence
Leo is the solar sign. It speaks through the heart, creativity, sovereignty, courage and the desire to bring something uniquely ours into the world. But an eclipse interrupts the ordinary flow of solar light. For a moment, what normally illuminates us disappears. This is why eclipses have always carried the language of revelation. Something is obscured so that something else can be seen. And this eclipse does not happen alone.
The Grand Air Trine
One of the most extraordinary signatures surrounding this eclipse is a powerful Grand Air Trine between Uranus in Gemini, Venus in Libra and Pluto in Aquarius: Uranus at 5° Gemini, Venus at 5° Libra and Pluto at 3° Aquarius. Three very different planetary forces suddenly begin speaking the same language.
Uranus in Gemini electrifies information. It changes how we communicate, think, connect and transmit knowledge. New ideas can arrive almost instantaneously. Conversations change direction. Something previously impossible to articulate suddenly becomes obvious. Pluto in Aquarius works at a deeper collective level, transforming networks, technologies, communities and the structures through which power circulates. Venus in Libra brings the entire configuration directly into the territory of relationship, attraction, art, values and exchange.
This is not passive Air. It moves. Ideas travel between people, encounters become catalysts, relationships reveal information and networks rearrange themselves. A conversation can alter the trajectory of something much larger. There is a feeling of the future arriving through connection.
Neptune Opens the Kite
But there is another beautiful geometry hidden inside this configuration. Neptune at 4° Aries opposes Venus in Libra while forming sextiles to Uranus and Pluto. The Grand Air Trine therefore becomes a kind of kite, with Neptune pulling the enormous mental and social energy of the Air signs toward vision, imagination and the invisible.
Air can endlessly circulate, but Neptune asks: Where is all this information taking us? What vision is trying to enter? What dream wants a body? What invisible intelligence is moving through the networks we are creating? Neptune in Aries is only beginning its long journey through the first sign of the zodiac. Something is being imagined that does not yet fully exist.
The eclipse may therefore bring not simply an ending or beginning, but a moment when we suddenly perceive the shape of something that has been forming beyond our conscious awareness.
The Leo Eclipse: What Wants to Be Seen?
The Sun and Moon meet at 20° Leo, with Jupiter and Mercury also traveling through Leo. There is an extraordinary concentration of solar energy here. Leo wants expression. It wants the heart to become visible. It wants creativity to move from private experience into the world. But eclipses complicate the Leo desire to shine. The light disappears before it returns.
Perhaps the question is not How do I become more visible? but What remains when the performance of identity disappears? What are we creating because it actually carries life? What knowledge are we ready to release? What part of ourselves has finished performing an old role? The eclipse asks us to distinguish between attention and radiance. They are not the same thing.
New York: Eclipse at the Midheaven
Location changes the houses dramatically. For New York, the eclipse occurs close to the Midheaven, bringing its themes into the territory of public life, vocation, visibility, reputation and legacy. I read this as a powerful moment for the release of spiritual and creative knowledge into the world. Something that has been cultivated privately may now need a public form: a book, an artwork, a teaching, a body of knowledge, a new direction.
The Midheaven asks what we leave behind us, not simply what we achieve. Under an eclipse, this can also mean allowing an old public identity to disappear so that another one can emerge. There is something particularly potent here about legacy building, about deciding what knowledge, creative work or vision is ready to move beyond the private self and enter collective space.
Amsterdam: The Eclipse in the 7th House
For Amsterdam, where I am experiencing the eclipse, the Sun and Moon fall in the 7th house of relationships, encounters, collaborations and significant others. Here the revelation comes through another person. Relationships become mirrors of destiny. We may suddenly understand why certain people entered our lives, what they have activated in us, and which relationships belong to the person we are becoming rather than the person we have been.
With Venus simultaneously participating in the Grand Air Trine, relationship is not a minor theme of this eclipse. It is one of its portals. Some connections may suddenly deepen, while others reveal their limits. New alliances can form with surprising speed. There can be sudden revelations about how our relationships have shaped our destiny, and how they might shape what comes next. Uranus reminds us that revelation rarely arrives according to schedule.
Eclipse as a Threshold
Ancient cultures did not treat eclipses casually. The disappearance of the Sun was an interruption of cosmic order, a moment when ordinary boundaries became unstable. I think there is wisdom in approaching eclipses this way, not with fear, but with attention.
We do not need to force manifestation under an eclipse. We can watch and listen. Notice who appears and who disappears. Notice which conversation continues echoing long after it ends. Notice what suddenly becomes impossible to pretend we do not know.
With Uranus, Venus and Pluto forming this immense circuit of Air while Neptune opens the field toward another dimension, information may arrive from unexpected places: through another person, through art, through technology, through dreams, through coincidence, through the living sky itself.
The Tropical Leo Solar Eclipse asks us to enter the temporary darkness without immediately filling it with explanation. The Sun will return, but perhaps we will not return from the darkness exactly as we entered it.
Whether we want to acknowledge it or not, the energies are present and the gravitational field of our Solar System suspended within the Milky Way galaxy affects us on both an individual and collective level. Stay calm, stay focus, surround yourself with those who love you and love them back!
