Our first guest on Creatrix Pod is the legendary artist and musician Gina Birch.
On this week’s episode our resident interviewer, art critic Habib William Kherbek interviews Gina about her creative process, experiences as a young female artist in late 1970s London, becoming friends with members of The Slits, and how her music wasn’t accepted in the art world until more recently, when she finally started getting the attention she really deserves.
Many will know Gina Birch as one of the founding members of The Raincoats with Ana da Silva from the late 70s with their feminist take on punk. Others may recognise her as the face of Women in Revolt! Art and Activism in the UK 1970-1990, a major survey show of feminist art, which is still on and runs until 7th April 2024 at London’s Tate Britain.
Gina recently had a solo exhibition of her paintings titled No One’s Little Girl at Gallery 46 in Whitechapel, in East London. Gina is as active and vibrant as ever and it is a real treat to present her as our first guest on Creatrix Pod.
Come back here this Friday, 1 March to listen to our first episode!
