This new lunar cycle begins on March 10th with the Sun and the Moon at 20 degrees and 40 minutes of Tropical, Pisces / 26°05’ Aquarius Sidereal in Purva Bhadrapada Nakshatra, and culminates on March 25th with the Lunar Eclipse in Tropical Libra/ Sidereal Virgo!

Vedic, Sidereal: New Moon in Aquarius, Purva Bhadrapada Nakshatra

Sidereal Sun & Moon at 26°05’ Aquarius, Purva Bhadrapada Nakshatra

The New Moon takes place in the sign of Aquarius in the Nakshatra Purva Bhadrapada which spans the Aquarius and the beginning of the Pisces. The symbols of this lunar mansion possess dualistic nature such as two-headed man, two front legs of a bed or funeral cot, or crossed swords. This symbolism reflects the ability to see things from different points of view, or if expressed negatively it represents sudden bursts of anger, and insincerity of intentions, being two-faced.

Purva Bhadrapada translates from Sanskrit as “the former lucky feet” or the “feet of a stool or a bench” The deity residing here is Aja Ekapada a “One Footed Goat”, one of the Rudras associated with storm, thunder and lightening. It can be also identified as the unicorn or the serpent, relating to the emanation of Shiva as Ekapada, and the means of transport for Agni, the god of fire. Fire is another aspect of this moon mansion – the burning symbolizing the inner fire built by spiritual practice, and the burning desire for knowledge (jnana).

With Jupiter as the ruling planet, this nakshatra stands for deep philosophical wisdom, independence and originality of thought. As Aquarius is ruled by Saturn and Pisces by Jupiter, the energy of this moon mansion can be seen as a mix of Saturn / Jupiter conjunction in the Aquarius part and entirely Jupiterian in the Pisces part. Here, there is a strong focus on an ideal of vision for the future. Artha, or material prosperity is the primary motivation of this nakshatra making resources available and bringing prosperity to those born under its rulership.

Star Markab, Alpha Pegasus at 28° Aquarius, Sidereal

As the New Moon aligns with the star Markab, in the constellation Pegasus, north of the ecliptic, it brings the focus to the physical expression of the soul, our body seen as a vehicle that allows us to have all of the life experiences, similar to the symbolism of the Purva Bhadrapada Nakshatra with the unicorn or the serpent being the means of transport for the gods.

Markab, Alpha Pegasus is the main star of the Great Square of Pegasus which holds the gnosis concerning the metamorphosis of the physical body into a body of light, or Merkabah, a grid of connected energy tetrahedrons that can be created around our earthy form through the meditation then allowing for quantum travels and leaps.

Ascending from the past into our destined evolutionary fulfillment, to become more through our human experience. The focus of Markab within the Great Square’s destiny, is the transformation of the physical body seen as the temple and a vessel of the soul emphasizing our responsibility to elevate the vibrational frequency we emit. Embodiment as the soul’s ultimate expression within Earth’s environment.

Western, Tropical: New Moon in Pisces and the Neptunian Oceanic Consciousness

The ruler of this New Moon, Neptune conjuncts the Moon and the Sun enhancing the energies of Pisces and its oceanic consciousness. With the Piscean stellium of Saturn, Sun, Moon, and Neptune within 4 degrees from Mercury, this is the cosmic call to become more open, and to accept things as they are with loving kindness. Strong Neptune brings sensitivity to the psychic realm, and also those dimensions of reality that we may not have vocabulary to talk about. If they can be psychically sensed, their wisdom can be revealed to us. Channeling the information from other planes of consciousness, being the perfect receptor and the tuning fork are the skills characteristic of the Neptunian archetype.

Neptune symbolizes the ability to transcend the finite self through experiencing unity with the greater Universe, and nonresistant, compassionate engagement with all that is.

The shadow side of Neptune, the psychic sponge that absorbs all there is and lives in chaos of impressions, can be remedied through the art of discernment and through learning about aura management. After all, too much exposure to the outside world can cloud one’s vision instead of tuning it to what truly matters. During this New Moon, the antidote lies in the Saturnian reality check, and its grounding and stabilizing quality.

With the Sun-Neptune connection, the Sun maintains its status quo while Neptune is dissolving all that is, the sense of reality, and boundaries. It really depends how familiar you are with these energies as it can bring both heightened psychic and artistic abilities but also confusion which comes with the total ego dissolution. The Neptunian energies can help you on your soul’s evolutionary path if you are tuned into the whispers of the cosmic guides, but it can also drive you into numbing yourself through addictions, and non-commitment, leaving you drifting along as a ghost, unable to constructively move forward, too sensitive for this world, too dreamy to ever make the first step, too spacey to act when opportunities appear. Be aware!

In order to integrate the Pisces energies fully we are always called to look up to the Virgin Goddess of Love, Virgo archetype. If in Neptunian doubt, meditate on the Virgin, and within the ocean of her potentiality, her medicine woman healing abilities, you are more likely to find your way into the light where you can swim with the dolphins!

Now let’s revise the Pisces sigil of two fish swimming in opposite directions, within the consciousness of the enlightened Virgin, her light, her knowing, her becoming. In ancient Greek astrology, the Pisces were actually represented by two dolphins, not two fish. That only changed in 4 BC, most likely as the dolphins disappeared from the Mediterranean Sea which became a battle field for various nations, thus no longer providing a safe oasis for these peace loving, animals always regarded as friends to our human race. In Greek mythology there are stories praising dolphins for their friendliness and intelligence. They were messengers of the Greek god of the sea Poseidon (dolphins not the fish!), dolphins were also sacred to both Aphrodite (Venus) and Apollo (Venus as animus!). The Virgin that used to ride the dolphins in ancient Greece, was Salacia, the goddess of salt waters which was a symbolic integration of the Virgo / Pisces axis, with the Goddess, not the God associated with these sacred animals.

Piscean energy is intuitive, psychic, and connected to the source. Read the below article for more archetypal insights
