Moon + Sun at 23°13′ Capricorn, Tropical
New Moons symbolize an opportunity to start new projects and to find the new layers of energy within to inspire you towards becoming a more authentic self. This new lunar cycle begins on January 13th, at midnight (!). The Sun and the Moon at 23 degrees and 12 minutes of Capricorn conjunct Pluto at 24 degrees.
The Pluto conjunction is the main planetary aspect of this first new moon of 2021. What’s particularly important is that the New Moon takes place on the same degree as the Saturn / Pluto conjunction of January 2020, therefore this is the time for reckoning with what emerged exactly a year ago. How well we lived up to the responsibilities of the joint energies of Saturn and Pluto?
The themes highlighted throughout the whole 2020 were those of personal responsibility which is a major lesson of Pluto in Capricorn, the need to act together for the common future, healing our collective warrior archetype, sharing of the resources, focus on our personal wellbeing as intrinsically connected to the ecology of the planet, and also spiritual and philosophical shift on the planetary level.
The New Moon sets the stage for a fresh start. With the focus on Capricorn: Sun, Moon, Pluto and Venus, this is the perfect time to plan for the new year. Remember that we are still under the influence of the Great Conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter which supports long term plans, and equips us with futuristic (Jupiter) and grounded (Saturn) vision.
Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, represents structures and authority both external and internal. To live up to the highest calling of this planet you need to accept the responsibility for manifesting your own goals. With this conjunction we are called to acknowledge ourselves as the creators of authority, and need to recognize our power to climb above self-imposed limitations through the practical skills of organizing and managing.
Another powerful wave of energy during this New Moon is the stellium of Saturn, Jupiter and Mercury planets in Aquarius squaring Mars and Uranus in Taurus. Watch out for the Saturn / Mars square. Try to avoid arguments and intentionally channel these powerful energies into sports or work. Staying up all night to finish a project or two can be the perfect solution for this square.
There is also the brilliant Mercury and Uranus square which delivers out of the box ideas, and is often described as a genius aspect. As long as you avoid mental restlessness, it can be a wonderful and productive time when new solutions to the old problems appear in front of you. Seize them, as they will disappear as quickly and unexpectedly as they showed up!
The intensity of Uranus and Mars square can be easily harnessed and softened through the trine with Venus, at 5 degrees of Capricorn. Venus in Capricorn has a fair amount of patience to cope with the Wild Card of Uranus and Mars conjunct. Her no-nonsense, pragmatic attitude and caution in social situations should help us to focus on the right priorities at the time.
Blessings on your path,
