Jazz artist and tap dancer Petra Haller begins her vinyl release tour of her debut album “Shoulders I Stand On” on March 10 at Norwich’s Anteros Arts Foundation. Stops include Piano Smithfield in London on March 12, featuring her new project “ORBIT”, and Ashburton Arts Centre the following day, concluding at Soundcellar Poole on March 14.
Recognized as a Rising Jazz Artist of 2020 by Jazzwise Magazine, Petra collaborates with renowned pianist Meg Morley, enhancing her fusion of jazz and tap dance by injecting narrative depth. Morley, an accomplished Melbourne-born musician based in London, has a diverse musical background that strengthens their collaborative effort.
The acclaimed album “Shoulders I Stand On” highlights influential artists on Haller’s journey through tracks that delve into the heart of contemporary jazz. The vinyl release aims to link the genre’s rich history with a bold vision for its future.
A standout event at Piano Smithfield on March 12 promises the unveiling of “ORBIT”, featuring poet Jeffrey Durrant and a skilled ensemble, including Italian singer Maddalena Ghezzi, cellist/ vocalist Kate Shortt, and award-nominated jazz pianist Alcyona Mick.
During the performance, Natalie Webb will paint live, encapsulating the concert essence on canvas.
Guided by Haller’s vision, the ensemble challenges jazz boundaries, interweaving diverse art forms, and inviting audiences to explore an expanded jazz universe.
