Total Lunar Eclipse May 16th 2022
Full Moon in Scorpio
12:13 AM EST

The Eclipse season is the time of reckoning, revelations and let’s say it loud and clear – COSMIC DOWNLOADS -defined by the current planetary energies and the effect they have on your personal chart, especially when they aspect your personal planets and points. We feel the energy of the eclipses a month before and up to 6 months after, so even if nothing happens on the day of the eclipse, potent portals are open and the transformation is coming. The eclipse season is a powerful vortex of energy that heralds changes and opens new possibilities. Whether we want to acknowledge it or not, the energies are present and the gravitational field of our Solar System suspended within the Milky Way galaxy affects us on both an individual and collective level.

Eclipses take places when the Sun and the Moon are within 10 degrees from the Moon’s Nodes. In short, during this Full Moon we experience the Total Eclipse as the Nodes are very close to the position of the Luminaries.

The upcoming Lunar Eclipse and the Full Moon in Scorpio takes place on May 16th, at 12:13 AM EST, with the Sun at 25 degrees and 17 minutes of Taurus, and the Moon at 25 degrees and 17 minutes of Scorpio.

If you have any points or planets near these degrees take the opportunity to look deep into what needs to be released and transformed. The planetary energies will guide you towards the resolutions within the areas defined by the houses these planets occupy.

South Node in Scorpio / North Node in Taurus

The Sun represents our ego and self esteem, the Moon, our emotional realm, with the South Node in Scorpio the emphasis is on overcoming destructive behaviors, addiction to drama, tendency to manipulate others to get what you want at all cost. Scorpio’s key phrase is TRANSFORMATION touching on the ultimate things of life and death. In its high expression it stands for the power of regeneration while expressed through its shadow leads to the abuse of power – keep that in mind and use your personal power for the greatest good of all. In the same spirit do not let anyone try to force you into anything you truly do not vibe with.

It’s also time of reckoning with negative ancestral patterns and past lives traumatic experiences that lurk in our subconscious. This eclipse season is the perfect time to cleanse your mind and heart from all unwanted feelings, people and situations. Whenever you feel the need to engage with any type of drama, think twice, and preferably walk away.

Scorpio Full Moon and the Total Lunar eclipse

The Moon and the Sun conjunct the Moon’s Nodes, with the North Node in Taurus at 22 degrees Tropical defining our collective future, and the South Node in Scorpio pointing to the past experiences that we collectively outgrown.

Since it is the Scorpio Full Moon, Mars, the traditional ruler of Scorpio and Pluto the modern ruler, are the guardians of this Total Lunar Eclipse so look into their placements in your chart as the house and sign will give you the clues for how you transform what you have outgrown in your life. Both planets represent the warrior archetypes but instead of being pulled into the vortex of power and control, and all the negative connotations that arise in relation to the abuse of power, let this Full Moon help you release all past experiences that were toxic, traumatic or held back your true personal expression.

This Lunar Eclipse is an opportunity to learn how to become more self-sufficient expressing Mars’ capacity to act and assert ourselves based upon our desires. It is also a meditation on our personal power with supportive energies of Pluto as it creates a trine to the Sun conjunct Mercury and sextile to the Moon and the South Node.

We are still under the influence of the Vortex of Loving Kindness and the cosmic portal of the Neptune / Jupiter conjunction. Mars currently transiting through Pisces is conjunct Neptune and Jupiter becoming the archetype of a spiritual warrior who expresses its assertive principle with compassion. He is searching for meaning rather than asserting his ego-driven desires, let this Mars receive the cosmic downloads of the Lunar Eclipse in meditation and prayer to fulfill his need for transcendence.

Major Aspects of the Lunar Eclipse:

T-square between the Sun, Moon and Saturn at 24º of Aquarius acting as an apex
Mercury Rx at 3º of Gemini conjunct Sun in Taurus
Stellium of Mars 23º / Neptune 24º of Pisces / Jupiter at 1º of Aries
the South Node and the Moon trine Neptune conjunct Mars
the South Node and the Moon sextile the Sun with the North Node
Pluto at 28º of Capricorn trine the Sun with the North Node
Pluto in Capricorn sextile the South Node and the Moon

With all these planetary configurations, this is a super dynamic Lunar Eclipse. The intensity will be great with the Moon in Scorpio, and Saturn squaring the Nodal axis conjunct the Moon and the Sun. This Lunar Eclipse asks you what you want, and what’s your unique path, and how you can let go parts that are no longer of use to your personal and spiritual development.

Saturnian Lesson

Saturn represents structures and authority both external and internal. To live up to the highest calling of this planet you need to accept the responsibility for manifesting your own goals. collective levels. We are called to acknowledge ourselves as the creators of authority, and need to recognize our power to climb above self-imposed limitations through the practical skills of organizing and managing.

It is essential to internalize the responsibility you hold over your own life, actions, potential for change, and impact on the community you are part of, an ever-evolving quantum dance of existence. Live up to your words, take responsibility for what you promised and committed to regardless of how big or small your obligations are. You have a choice.  You are free to act, so if you choose integrity then Saturn, the God of Time and Duty will nod approvingly as you overcome the fear to act, and push the limits of personal comfort to take responsibility for your own life and those who are part of it.

With the square to Saturn we are aware of what needs to change as Saturn offers the reality check making us realize that the changes are necessary therefore we need to figure out what our path forward is going to be.

Pluto: Higher Awareness of Personal Power

With Pluto at 28º of Capricorn creating a trine to the Sun conjunct Mercury and the North Node, as well as the sextile to the South Node and the Moon, this Lunar Eclipse brings us support in our growth helping us define where we are heading.

Pluto in Capricorn, the generational slow-moving planet calls upon us to collectively acknowledge a concept of personal responsibility reverberating and enhancing the work of Saturn. Pluto reveals where we most covertly resist change, therefore also showing us where we have the opportunity to rise above personal fears.

Mercury Retrograde

We are also in the midsts of Mercury Retrograde period. Mercury started its retrograde motion on May 10th in the sign of Gemini at 4 degrees, and will continue the backward motion until June 3rd when it reaches 26 degrees of Taurus. Mercury retrogrades are generally marked by a need for extra patience and diligence. However, Mercury retrograde in Gemini in the first half, also invokes the theme of the heart-mind connection, allowing us to dive deeper into our psyches through the process of retrospection, supporting psychoanalytic quality of our dreamworlds. With the Mercury retrograde in Taurus in the second half, the focus is on deepening our connection between the idea driven quick Mercurial mindset and the grounded, practical focus of the earthy sign of Taurus.

The South Node of Transformation

If you have any personal planets (especially the Sun, and the Moon) conjunct the South Node, this is the time of reckoning with your past, and releasing all the outdated patterns and energies so as to build your own new world in tune with a more authentic way of living that embodies what we stand for.

Ultimately, the Scorpio energy of the Lunar Eclipse will transform you and it will lift you up with the higher awareness about your own responsibility over your life, your purpose and your energy.

What does the eclipse bring to our personal lives?

Anything that occurs globally that has great power and influence is certain to affect us. If the degrees of the eclipses concur with a point or planet in our charts, then it will cause occurrences as if we were experiencing an outer planet transit. But even if we do not have anything on personal points or planets, the eclipses will always fall in a house in our chart. It is important to see the area of your chart where the nodes and eclipses fall and if they hit a planet or personal point in your chart (especially when it is combined with a retrograde) it will activate that point, bringing things to light that the planet or point represents, sometimes positively and sometimes negatively, but be prepared for something to be activated. Remember, the ancient scriptures advise to stay focused, meditate, and reflect so that you will have strength to live through whatever the eclipses bring.

Vedic Chart

In the Vedic chart the Moon resides at 1º 8″ Scorpio in Vishaka Nakshatra. This Nakshatra ruled by Jupiter is described as the STAR OF PURPOSE, and stands for the power to achieve many things in life. It represents ambition, courage, persistence and intelligence.

The governing deity is Indra-Agni, merging of two of the main Gods of the ancient Vedic Pantheon. Indra being the King of the Gods, and Agni, God of Fire, is the second most important god who intermediates between Heaven and Earth. With this combination we get the feeling that we are following a purpose that is more important than anything else.

The symbol of Vishaka is a triumphant archway, leading us towards a distant goal with the ambition to fulfill a purpose so we can succeed and be worthy of recognition. As we deal with Vishaka’s intense energy it is important to aim for a higher goal seeking knowledge and spiritual wisdom rather than being driven by egoistic ambition.

What causes the Eclipses?

The Nodes are the ones responsible for the eclipse. Rather than planets with shape or mass, the Nodes are simply the places where the orbit of the Moon intersects with the “orbit” of the Sun. The point formed after the Moon has traveled from South to North is called the Ascending Node, or North Node.

In western astrology, the Nodes are considered to be points of evolution. The South Node is where we are comfortable, or where our past life has been and therefore we stay at that comfort level. The North Node is the place we are compelled to move towards in order to evolve and be the best we can be. Ultimately we must balance the two points, that is, the signs and houses.

The Moon’s Nodes responsible for the eclipses are also called the Dragons in Vedic astrology from where the symbolism of the eclipses originated. For the original story of the Eclipses check out my article: THE STORY OF A WOMAN AND THE SNAKE, in which I relate the Hindu myth about the churning of the ocean of milk, and how the Nodes and eclipses were formed. It is an important event in Hindu philosophy, and the most common form of the story is from the Mahābhārata – perfectly describing the symbolism of the Nodes and Eclipses.

In Vedic astrology the Dragons, are in fact the Demons who caused the eclipse, which you can learn more about in the article THE DEMONS WHO CAUSED THE ECLIPSE.
