Mercury Retrograde in Aquarius: Collective Evolution.

Mercury retrogrades are generally marked by a need for extra patience and diligence. However, Mercury retrograde in Aquarius, its sign of exaltation, also sheds the light on the goals, hopes and expectations in life. It’s a very good time to examine your ideas and how well they served you, and to what extent you have attained them.

Mercury Retrograde in Aquarius period:
January 30th – February 20th

Retrograde phases are a good time to slow down, and to take a little extra time and care with communication. Yet it’s also possible to approach them as a journey of discovery and reclamation.

Soon after the full moon, on January 30 (Saturday, 10:52am EST exact) Mercury starts its retrograde motion in the sign of Aquarius at 26 degrees, and will continue the backward motion until February 20th at 11 degrees of Aquarius. With Mercury in Aquarius, the goal is to avoid miscommunications that could damage your relationships, and on a deeper level review your ideals so they could better reflect who you are and what you want from life – a big goal to reckon with!

Mercury retrogrades are generally marked by a need for extra patience and diligence. However, Mercury retrograde in Aquarius, its sign of exaltation, also sheds the light on the goals, hopes and expectations in life. It’s a very good time to examine your ideals and how well they served you, and to what extent you have attained them. You should examine if your goals are truly the reflection of who you are, or whether they mirror the consensual reality.

With Mercury retrograde in Aquarius, the sign that governs groups and represents friendships, be mindful of your communications as there may be unnecessary misunderstandings. Mercury signifies the interchange with our world so during the retrograde period, it’s a good idea to pay attention to how other people react to our words.

On an individual level, Mercury and its sign and a house placement also represents our style of communication therefore, note the aspects the retrograde Mercury in Aquarius creates to your natal Mercury. If your natal Mercury is in Gemini, Libra or Aquarius chances are this is going to be a fruitful time of introspection. Similarly through the harmonious sextile, the same applies to the natal position of Mercury in Aries and Sagittarius. However, if your natal Mercury opposes (Leo) or squares the transiting Mercury in Aquarius – and is placed in Taurus, Leo, or Scorpio – this may be a more challenging time, so do pay extra attention to any detailed work you are doing, and watch out your communications so you don’t come across in a harsh way.  The same applies to the yodes aspect of Mercury in Cancer and Virgo.

Ultimately, don’t be afraid to slow down, and go inwards. Mercury in Aquarius is in its sign of exaltation which means it brings the best of what it has to offer: Mercurial thinking and analyzing function of the human psyche, and Aquarian ingenuity and out of the box solutions. Slowing your external communications may prove beneficial to the inner workings of your mind.

And while Mercury is personal, the sign of Aquarius represents impersonal dedication to humanity, therefore, this is an opportunity to see yourself as part of a larger cosmic sphere, in which your role is to contribute to the development of human evolution.
