Sun @ 13 degrees 37 minutes of Cancer
Moon @ 13 degrees 37 minutes of Capricorn
The eclipse season is powerful, tense and revealing. After the Lunar Eclipse / Full Moon in Sagittarius on June 5th, and the New Moon in Cancer / Annular Solar Eclipse on June 21st during the opening of a cosmic portal of Summer Solstice – now on July 5th we are to experience the Full Moon in Capricorn and partial Lunar Eclipse.
What is a Lunar Eclipse?
A lunar eclipse can only occur at Full Moon (Sun opposite Moon), when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon blocking the Sun’s rays from reaching all or part of the Moon. The Earth passes through some portion of its shadow blocking some or all of the Sun’s rays from reaching the Moon.
With the Sun in Cancer at 13 degrees and 37 minutes opposing the Moon in Capricorn the tensions arise between our domestic life and the way we want to be seen in the world. The Cancer / Capricorn axis teaches us about what we need to feel safe and nurtured and how that sense of inner security contributes to our worldly success. We may have to reexamine how we cope with the shortcomings of our family life to be able to face the requirements of the outside world. These energies can also be experienced as an ambitious drive to live up to some professional ideal we hold within ourselves, or we may be prompted to simply reorganize our home situation in order to serve us better, and contribute instead of hindering our sense of worth.
There are quite a few potent aspects during this eclipse which may be experienced as a culmination of energies that were building up during the past few months. The most challenging aspect is a t-square involving the Moon / Sun opposition squaring Mars in a wide conjunction with Chiron acting as an apex, or the catalyst.
Mars and Chiron in Aries
Mars has moved into its own sign Aries on June 27th and will remain there for the next 6 months moving forward and then retrograding from September 9th until November 13th. 6 months in its own sign is an extremely usual occurrence as it normally transits through the sign within 6 weeks. With Mars conjuncting Chiron in Aries during the first 3 weeks of July, there is potential for healing our collective past. Chiron, The Wounded Healer, currently transiting through Aries (2018-2027), teaches us about leadership, healing the wounds around self worth, assertiveness, and the need to lead even if you know deep inside you are not always the greatest hero you would like to be. Mars on its way through the sign of Aries will form an exact conjunction with Chiron on July 14th, however these energies will be felt throughout the whole month of July. Chiron represents our process of individuation, becoming who we are supposed to be, and through this journey discovering our healing potential. Chiron conjunct Mars catalyzes unusually difficult experiences that accelerate our process of transformation if we have the strength to understand and overcome our shortcomings. This process of healing is not going to be easy but the potential for transformation on individual and collective level is vast.
With Mars, the raw, warrior-like energy squaring the Moon and the Sun, we will experience similar themes to the Annular Eclipse from June 21st, however, the intensity increases.
Be aware of tendencies towards righteousness and assertiveness at any cost, and think twice before acting fueled by the need to prove one’s point of view. This transit may also be experienced as if the external forces were putting us under attack; don’t let anyone step over your boundaries but at the same time commit to nonviolent communication and act from a place of empathy and compassion.
Ceres in Pisces
Luckily, there are also a lot of supportive energies coming from Ceres, The Earth Mother in compassionate Pisces, in trine with the Sun and in sextile with the Moon.
The Goddess of Nurture evokes connection to the higher reality if we can let ourselves be guided by the feeling of unconditional love and thus supporting the healing process initiated by the Chiron and Mars conjunction. These alignments denote potential for developing empathy of the suffering of others, and from the place of all encompassing love, extending our love and assistance to those in pain or need.
Uranus in Taurus
Another powerful aspect of this Lunar Eclipse is Uranus at 10 degrees of Taurus in sextile to the Sun in Cancer and trine to the Moon in Capricorn, which promises the downpour of brilliant ideas that could provide out of the box solutions to the current difficulties. Uranus can also initiate a nonlinear leap resolving our issues in unconventional ways, which may well provide an opportunity for quantum healing. What could this mean to you? Open yourself up to the flashes of insights and the “eureka” moments. Work with the energies of the Universe which is clearly activating the potential for collective ascension.
Mercury retrograde
The intensity also increases with Mercury retrograde in Cancer, which started on June 17th and will continue until July 12th. Retrograde phases are a good time to slow down, and to take a little extra time and care with communication. Right now we are also experiencing Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter and Pallas Athena retrogrades, so in general this is the time of discovery and reclamation when we have a chance to reexamine our beliefs, values, emotional attitudes and also gain valuable insights in order to gain deeper understandings of what it is that holds us back, and hopefully find fresh solutions and new motivations and new motivations to overcome the obstacles.
Surrender to the flow of the cosmic energies
This is the last eclipse of the summer, which included an unusual number of 3 consecutive eclipses happening between the Gemini / Sagittarius and Cancer / Capricorn axis. The effects of this powerful eclipse season will be felt in the upcoming months. Especially during the time when one of the transiting planets passes through the degree of the eclipses.
During this emotionally charged period in the first couple of weeks of July, surrender to the flow of energies, retreat, meditate, prepare some type of soothing ritual, reflect on what is happening in your life in particular if the degrees of the eclipses concur with a planet in your chart. Eclipses are experienced most strongly when they form close aspects to planets in your chart, such as conjunctions, squares and oppositions. But even if you do not have anything on personal planets, the eclipses will always fall in a house in your chart. Be prepared for something to be activated.
