Sun at 19 degrees and 37 minutes of Pisces
Moon at 19 degrees and 37 minutes of Virgo
March 9th, 1:48 pm EST
Full moons symbolize a peak of energies, and occur when the Sun (the ego) opposes the Moon (the soul). This Full Moon in Virgo occurs on March 9th at 1:48 PM in New York (check your time zone accordingly).
This is an unprecedented time in our history as a species. Never before have so many people lived on the planet 7.8B, and the vast number of them have benefited from the same conditions that have propelled the world economy towards prosperity. But these conditions are also ripe for disruption due to their interconnected nature. Goods and commerce flow seamlessly as never before, but those same conditions also create an avenue of opportunity for disease to spread. And that is what we are witnessing today. Whether or not this is The pandemic that researchers have predicted, it is proof positive of the susceptibility that we face with the ease of porous borders enabled by international travel.
With the Sun at 19 degrees and 37 minutes of Pisces opposing the Moon at 19 degrees and 37 minutes of Virgo there is an opportunity to connect to the highest aspects of our soul through the earthy energies of Virgo, in other words: what are the practical ways of manifesting our divine yearnings.
The duality of the Full Moon expresses itself through the axis of Virgo and Pisces. Virgo, ruled by Mercury, is currently retrograde in Pisces until March 10th, and is committed to order and logic, which during this retrograde phase isn’t expressing itself as “it is supposed to”; instead it dives deep into our emotional realm and through the world of fantasy to expose our basic need for security and nurturing. So pay attention to your dreams, and see which ones, and to what extent can be realized. In this quantum universe many things are possible! You have to dream it to live it. Within the unifying consciousness of Pisces, we use intuition instead of logic, and the fantasy sets the tone.
While Virgo is the Organizer, Pisces represents the Visionary. With Sun Neptune conjunction in Pisces opposing the Full Moon we are encouraged to take an analytical approach to our big visions: ground our fantasies into the concrete, material world, which is further supported by the planetary stellium in Capricorn. The practical, and structured energies of the earth signs are strong. This Full Moon we are going to experience the Grand Earth Trine with the Moon in Virgo, Saturn, Pluto, Jupiter, Pallas Athena, and Mars in Capricorn, and Vesta in Taurus. What can you do to live a more authentic life? What structures, or relationships do you need to build in order to see your visions manifest? If you are experiencing chaos in any area of your life, what are the practical ways to bring order to those? Take one crucial step and see it to completion.
The archetype of Virgo, brings us back to the origins of our civilization and the first accounts of astrology as the cosmic religion. In the ancient Sumer, when astrology followed the movement of celestial objects, in a way Joytish, or Hindu astrology still does, the most important, live-giving deity was known as Inanna, with her symbolism as the Goddess of Love, the most powerful force in the Universe. She was the deity celebrated during the Summer Solstice, number one festival of those ancient times. As the equinox point moved through the time, Leo replaced the Virgin Goddess – new set of deities represented as half women and half lions appeared, then Cancer – with new temples arising on the sea shores, and water nymphs and mermaids overtaking our mythologies and imaginations. And while for Western Astrology the calendar stopped back then, the Vernal Equinox Point has been moving through the Zodiac which you can read about in my previous posts.
Greek mythology also explains the origins of the Virgo constellation, referring to the Golden Age of humanity after which all the Gods abandoned the Earth, with an exception of Astraea whose name translates as star-maiden. She was a daughter of Astraeus, the Titan-god of the dusk, and Eos, a Titaness and the goddess of the dawn. Astraea remained with humanity until the end of the Silver Age, then as the Bronze Age began she fled to the stars appalled by human rage and greed. She became the constellation Virgo, holding the scales of Justice, which represents the constellation of Libra. The legend says that Astraea will one day come back to Earth, bringing with her the return of the utopian Golden Age… During this Full Moon the asteroid Astraea at 24 degrees of Cancer trines the Sun and Neptune and opposes the stellium of Saturn, Pluto, Jupiter and Pallas in Capricorn. Is this the time for her to finally return?
