Sun at 19 degrees and 51 minutes of Sagittarius
Moon at 19 degrees and 51 minutes of Gemini
December 12th, 12:12am ET, 5:12am GMT
Full moons symbolize a peak of energies, and occur when the Sun (the ego) opposes the Moon (the soul). This Full Moon in Gemini occurs on December 12th at 12:12 AM in New York (check your time zone accordingly). The last full moon of 2019, it is known as a Cold Moon or a Long Night’s Moon, according to the Farmer’s Almanac, which is a fitting description, as the winter species nears bringing the longest darkest nights of the year. Sun at 19 degrees 51 minutes of Sagittarius opposes the Moon at 19 degrees 51 minutes of Gemini connecting us with our minds and bringing the need to communicate, socialize, be in the world, talk things through and exchange ideas in order to understand and to learn. Since we didn’t have much air element in the recent alignments this last full moon of 2019 brings a breath of fresh air, aliveness, excitement, and the pursuit of fun here and now.
The duality of the Full Moon expresses itself through the axis of Gemini and Sagittarius. Mercury is focused on the details, while Sagittarius shows us the bigger picture. What’s more, the ruler of Gemini, Mercury is in Sagittarius which is its sign of detriment. The Sun and Mercury accumulate worldly knowledge but in order to apply it to our lives we need to look at what is happening in Capricorn which has been on our radar for quite some time.
With Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius in Capricorn, and Saturn, Venus and Pluto conjunct in Capricorn between 19-21 degrees we are called to take things seriously regardless of what the Gemini Full Moon wishes for. So don’t be surprised if you feel split, wanting to enjoy the moment on one hand and asking yourself questions about what matters to you on the other hand. Venus is strong and conservative in Capricorn, and this week when she meets with Saturn it is time for all sorts of assessments. You will take a reality check on such things as your financial security, and how healthy your relationships are. Also with Venus and Pluto conjunction you will be prompted to face the areas of your life where you experience conflict; there is no place to hide but plenty of room for improvement and planning for the year ahead.
We need to learn from whatever comes up during this Full Moon, and navigate through those complex and edgy planetary alignments. The Moon and Sun are squaring Neptune at 15 degrees of Pisces creating a t-square which makes us ungrounded, possibly exhausted and confused. This is especially felt from December 7th until 10th. Slow down, and ideally channel the energy excess through a physical activity: dance, swim, exercise. Express yourself on an earthly plane as Neptune in Pisces sextiles Mars at 15 degrees of Scorpio creating a positive outlet. Mars in Scorpio is powerful, determined and thorough. It also sextiles Saturn, Venus and Pluto in Capricorn repeating the themes of structural assessment, and positive, even if radical, changes.
This Full Moon, with all its intensity of Capricorn planets, is also bringing unexpected but possibly delightful developments. With Jupiter in Capricorn trining Uranus at 2 degrees of Taurus we have promising earthy energy that can provide money, promotion, abundance, good news, and sudden tangible opportunities, so it would be wise to follow the call of the Gemini Moon and be out there in the world to attract the unknown. Make the most of it, especially if you have any planets at the beginning of the earth signs: Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn.
Ultimately, the Gemini energy of the Moon is here to inject excitement with that precious feeling of carpe diem, as well as hope, in the midsts of the Long Night’s Moon, the last Full Moon of the decade!
