I am always excited to explicitly wish you a New Moon when it takes place in the same sign of both Western and Vedic systems – Happy New Moon in Cancer, Cosmic Beings!

Punarvasu Nakshatra – the Star of Renewal

The Moon at 00°45′ Cancer, in the Nakshatra Punarvasu conjoins the Sun at 00°45′ Cancer. Punarvasu, lies partly in the sign of Gemini, representing Jupiter/Mercury energies and partly in Cancer, reflecting the energies of Jupiter/Moon. The deity associated with this Moon Mansion is the Great Goddess of Creation, the Mother of the Universe, Creatrix Aditi. She who gives birth again and again. She even created her own father… She is One, her forms are Many. She resides in all, all resides in her.

Punarvasu, represented by a bow and a quiver full of arrows, gives us many opportunities in life, as the arrows magically return to the quiver, allowing for many new beginnings and opening us up to the vast universe which is full of potential. The wisdom of this Nakshatra encourages us to rest in the infinite and be assured of abundance and safety. Within this consciousness of prosperity, we become generous, capable of forgiveness and willing to share all the good things in life.

Western Chart

Major aspects of this New Moon:

  • New Moon trine Neptune
  • New Moon as an apex of a t-square to the Nodes
  • New Moon opposition Pluto

Pluto in Capricorn, the generational slow-moving planet calls upon us to collectively acknowledge a concept of personal responsibility. Pluto reveals where we most covertly resist change, therefore also showing us where we have the opportunity to rise above personal fears.

With Pluto opposing this New Moon you ought to internalize the responsibility you hold over your own life, actions, potential for change, and impact on the community you are part of, an ever-evolving quantum dance of existence. Live up to your words, take responsibility for what you promised and committed to regardless of how big or small your obligations are. You have a choice and you are free to act. Choose integrity and overcome the fear to act pushing the limits of personal comfort to take responsibility for your own life and those who are part of it.

Procyon, The Supporter of the Collective Vision

The Sun and the Moon also align with the star Procyon, the brightest star in the constellation of Canis Minor and the eighth-brightest star in the night sky. Procyon itself inspires commitment to a greater cause in life, working with diverse groups and supporting the collective vision. Procyon lies just across the cusp into Sidereal Cancer, opening the gates and impelling the capacity to host diverse groups of unique origin to work together for a greater cause.

Procyon is the eighth-brightest star in the night sky, culminating at midnight on 14 January. It forms one of the three vertices of the Winter Triangle asterism, in combination with Sirius and Betelgeuse. The prime period for evening viewing of Procyon is in late winter in the Northern Hemisphere.

Nodal Change in Western Zodiac

On July 17th at 4pm EST, the Moon Node’s change the signs from the Taurus / Scorpio axis to Aries / Libra. In the actual constellations and within Vedic astrology they already changed the signs
