Moon +Sun at 28°26′ Cancer
New Moons symbolize an opportunity to start new projects and to find the new layers of energy within to inspire you towards becoming a more authentic self. This new lunar cycle begins on July 20th, exactly at 1:28 pm EST, with the Sun and the Moon at 28 degrees and 26 minutes of Cancer. New Moon is opposed by the stellium of planets in the Zodiac sign of Capricorn (Sidereal Sagittarius) which emphasizes the themes highlighted throughout the whole 2020: personal responsibility (big theme of Pluto in Capricorn), the need to act together for the common future, healing our collective warrior archetype, sharing of the resources, focus on our personal wellbeing as intrinsically connected to the ecology of the planet, and also spiritual and philosophical shift on the planetary level.
This is the second New Moon in Cancer this year, after the first one which was also the Solar Eclipse that will affect us for another six months. With Cancer, a cardinal, water sign ruled by the Moon, we are experiencing a need to stay within the close circle of family and friends, we also long for resolutions of the tensions that have accumulated during the last few months… However, within the last week we have been under the influence of difficult planetary alignments which in fact should be seen as an opportunity for growth – as long as we are ready to face our commitments and obligations. With the Sun opposing Jupiter, exact on July 14th, Pluto exact on July 15th and Saturn exact on July 20th, this New Moon generates a lot of intensity. The coping mechanism is to attune to the CAPRICORN’s lessons on both personal and collective levels. Internalize the responsibility we hold over our lives, actions, potential for change, and impact on the community we are part of.
During this New Moon we are especially under the influence of Saturn which is also at its brightest and visible throughout the night in the northern hemisphere. Saturn is up all night rising at sunset and setting at sunrise so you can actually watch a “Saturn-rise” in the east at around 8pm and “Saturn-set” just before the sunrise.
Sedna, Goddess of the Sea and Infinite Supply, at 28 degrees of Taurus creates a supporting sextile to the Sun and the Moon and a trine to the stellium. With her help we gain strength, confidence and those survival skills necessary to face life’s throwbacks. Sedna is the Goddess of the Inuit people, there are many versions of the creation myth that explain her half fish half woman appearance. In one of them Sedna is portrayed as a beautiful maiden who rejects marriage proposals from the hunters of her village. When an unknown hunter appears, Sedna’s father agrees to give her to him as a wife in return for providing an abundance of fish. Sedna’s father gives her a sleeping potion so she could be taken by the hunter to his lodgings…. Sedna wakes up surrounded by birds, in a large nest on a cliff, as the hunger reveals his true identity of a great bird-spirit. Her father attempts to rescue her, which angers the bird-spirit who brings an apocalyptic storm. Once again, Sedna’s fate is in the hands of her father who throws her into the raging sea so as to save her from the bird. Sedna attempts to cling to the boat until her hands freeze and her fingers fall off becoming the creatures of the sea: seals and sea lions. She then falls to the bottom of the sea, grows a fishtail, and becomes the Goddess of the Deep Waters, to which the fishermen pray for a successful hunt. She is revered by the Inuit people of the Arctic regions of Greenland, Canada and Alaska as one of the most powerful deities and the archetype of survival against all odds.
Another major influence is the T-square between the New Moon and the Capricorn stellium with Eris, Goddess of Discord as an apex. Eris was discovered only recently in 2003, she is called Pluto’s sister but she is actually larger than Pluto. Her orbit is slow and right now for the rest of the year she is at 24 degrees of Aries at retrograde motion. The archetypal meaning she conveys is the ignored furious feminine energy that represents the oppressed and those without the agency. She is an angry deity that suddenly emerged on the stage and demands to be reckoned with. That rage is intensified through the opposition between the energies of Cancer and Capricorn. Acting as an apex Eris may guide us towards a possible resolution, so feel into her and recognize the parts of you that have been stifled. Unexpressed desires and bottled up feelings erupt with much greater force whether on personal or collective level.
Aside from the tensions in the US, there are many other countries going through the hardships caused by the Corona virus, but also ongoing wars, social unrest and economic decline often a result of extreme weather conditions. . We share the same planet with over 8 billion humans, regardless of cultural or linguistic differences we are all interconnected, therefore, Eris reminds us that we ought to bear responsibility for creating more equality in all parts of the world as our collective spiritual mission.
